Ana Marija Grbanovic was born in Slovenia in 1988 and left for Italy in 2005. During her studies in Preservation of Cultural Heritage at the University of Udine she discovered her passion for the History of Islamic Art and Architecture during. Since then, Ana has traveled extensively to Georgia, Armenia, Nagorno Karabakh, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and India and worked as a tourist guide in Cuba, Sicily, Turkey, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. One of Ana’s most inspiring journeys was by train to Iran, where she returns regularly, and many of her works were published together with travelogues or articles about Iran, Central Asia or Cuba. Previous solo exhibitions have included “Meanwhile in Iran” (Slovenia, 2013) where she presented some of her works in the light-box media to at portray the realities of people’s lives which are rarely mentioned by the media. Ana currently studies MA History of Art and Architecture of Islamic Middle East at SOAS.
